What sort of batting would be good in a baby quilt backed with Minkee?

I'm making a baby quilt with a pieced cotton top and solid aqua Minkee backing (the kind with little raised dots).

Unless the weather is very cold you don't need any batting.  But if you're looking for a little strength and stability you might use a layer of muslin or cotton flannelette.  This way the seams in the pieced top won't have to bear all the strain.  Remember Minkie is stretchy and won't support those seams.

The minkie itself is warm and slightly thick, and you don't really want anything heavy on a baby so keep the filler to a minimum.

For a toddler, if you really want a warmer blanket you could add a lightweight polyester.

Take care of that top, it may become an heirloom someday.

By the way my little grandson will barely accept anything but minkie.  He's very insistent on softness.
